Sam Lawrence | Everyone Gets A Trophy

Tis the season for my 2nd icy Santa Speedo Run through the streets of Boston with the SSRunners for my favorite charity, The Play Ball Foundation! Last year I joined the Foundation immediately after I was introduced to such a passionate group. Our goal is to raise $200,000 through the SSRun to support the 2,300 middle school kids playing sports. The event is Saturday, December 9 and I’m looking for your help. My personal fundraising goal is $1,000. Any and all support goes a long way.

Last year, thanks to many of you, I raised more than $2,000 and despite a recently torn MCL was able to hobble down Boylston St. in the 15 degree Boston air in a missized red Speedo and Santa Hat (photo evidence can be produced upon request). The event is a blast, silly in nature but designed that way to bring people together, create a buzz and ultimately raise more money for a far from silly cause. I'm kicking off the effort a little last second this year, but am hoping I can count on you to get me there anyways.

I know everyone receives similar emails, and we all have organizations that we support. But if you have a little to give, remember how important team sports were to you, and please give what you can (encouraging the idea of me “running” down Boylston in a speedo mid-December is an added bonus). Your donation is going directly to the 2018 sports teams as PlayBall! has one of the highest contribution rates for Boston charities.

PB's mission today is to create and expand team sports opportunities for middle school age urban youth who are at a pivotal time of physical and emotional development. Pay-to-Play fees are not affordable for most Boston and Lawrence families, where over 75% of students live at the poverty level. As many of us can personally relate, through the experience of team sports, PB seeks to inspire young athletes to succeed in school, become engaged in their school communities and develop life skills that will make them better prepared to enter high school and beyond.

Thank you for your consideration & support
